David (Craft)--
I guess this is a further testimonial.
Today I went aboard Aeolia for the first time since I left Apollo Beach in July 2012. I've been back 8 days and been otherwise busy, but I confess I was also uneasy about what I might find. Last year I had 2 rounds of expensive outboard repairs & then lightning fried all the electronics.
Because I wasn't here last year when hurricane Isaac seemed headed for Tampa Bay, I hired the guy who repaired/replaced the electronics to remove Aeolia's mast & rigging. (He'd already lowered & raised the IMF once.) I also had him build a pvc frame to support the boat cover while the boom wasn't in place. The cover extends from the transom over the cockpit and then up over the top of the cabin, completely protecting the companionway and poptop. (It doesn't cover cabin sides).
Whew! The interior of Aeolia could NOT have been dryer, and the little Nicro solar fan was purring away as usual.
I also want to thank whomever suggested dryer sheets to repell mud-daubers. I had lots of them as stow-aways last year, not one aboard today.
The rode locker was also bone dry. I'd removed anchor and rode, fitted styrofoam tight inside the hawse hole, and then capped that with an inverted Rubbermaid-type plastic container held down with bungees. The bungees were badly sun-damaged and when I removed them the container shattered like thin old glass, but who cares?!
In short, no water got in through the Nicro. It's truly worth the money & time to install one.
Best
Peter

I'm late to the discussion (been moving), but I have a Nicro--the larger one (4"?) and it works well. It's powerful enuff to pull air through the cabin pretty quickly, efficiently charges its own battery, and runs around the clock. As others recommended, it's installed in the bow above the rode locker. Since I also have a bow roller, there was some question about how the Nicro might get in the way of one's feet when standing at the pulpit, but that hasn't been much of a problem.
If I remember correctly, it's also easy to reverse the little plastic "propeller" (fan blades) so that it blows air into the cabin rather than out. That is, it's easy after you slide out the rode locker, which isn't quite as easy.
I was away when Isaac blew by last summer; when I got back the rode locker held a lot of water. I don't blame the Nicro--I think the water got in around anchor chain--and the ventilator was still purring just fine.

I installed one of the Nicro models in the vent above the tray above the v-berth. It just fit. I think it worked pretty well. Never had a problem with leaking throughout the vent either. I'll buy a new one this year.
