We just finished our annual trip to smith mountain lake virginia.  We also have considered buying a place on the lake.  It was great but my wife asked was there a clear lake closer to home without alligators that we can swim and sail on?  My first thought was lake hartwell.  
So where is the best sailing on the lake?  Any low down or advice would be appreciated.
