Hi Bob,
Work to find the sweet spot as far as boom position goes. For us when
deploying the main, we let the topping lift out so that the boom is
just below horizontal and we just make sure the topping lift is not
too loose when furling. We do occasionally have problems with a kink
in the outhaul hanging things up when we are furling so we keep an
eye on that to make sure it is moving freely through the boom as we furl
We do use McLube Sailcote on the bearing once a season (when we
remember) and if we remember when the mast is down, we also spray the
edges of the slot. We use the Sailcote
(http://www.mclubemarine.com/sailkote/) because its a dry lubricant,
won't hurt the sails and doesn't attract dirt.
