Another option would be to remove the centerboard from the boat so you can do the work inside—much better for control of temperature.  It is bit of a pain to remove, but that will give you the opportunity to inspect the entire system and replace the gasket and any other components if necessary. 

I would definitely replace the centerboard line regardless. 

FYI I have a lot of gasket material available to Rhodie who needs it—just pay shipping.
