Gene,

I have bought, not bought, and sold sailboats that involved surveys. I
highly recommend hiring one but you must take care to get a reputable one,
not one that is recommended by the seller or his agent. BoatUS has a list
of surveyors on their web page. I have been pleased with the ones I have
dealt with that were on that list but I live near Annapolis so there are a
lot of good ones available.

> Some big,big percentage of info on buying a boat, even new boats, is to
have it surveyed by a qualified marine surveyor, not the manufacturer, before
closing. Seems like good insurance to me. what are your opinions? Also is
this 'must have book for 1st time buyers with no boat construction
experience? thanx, gene from bloomsburg,pa
