the answer might be less wind for the difference, it does not take much reefing of the 175 for it to loose all sail shape, and if he
was using the inside sheeting it has the sail area of a wet hanky and as much sail shape to, add some "pinching" and it happens. it
were the smaller sails come into their own. They turn wind into boat speed and not heeling. it also hard to answer these type of
question in writing. 20 minutes on the water is worth 10,00 words :-)

Michael,
You have a point.  Keith Burhhardt did better than that with no
prior Rhodes sailing experience.  Either he did better or his GPS was wrong.
And he was doing it with a malfunctioning genoa and less wind.

15-20 knots of wind and only 3.5-4 knots of boat speed, now that is
embarrassing. unless it a typeo you need a sail trimming lesson
that best done on the water.
