Dave, the hole in the cockpit floor is for the table, if you want to use it
at anchor or at the dock. Makes a nice bar. For rum. I wouldn't try to
cover it 'cause then you'll probably just trap water in there.
I also got the UPP. You can buy a wire outboard motor safety cable at West
Marine. I was staring at mine to figure out where to put it a safety calbe
but didn't come up with anything. I don't want to drill a new hole. I do
have a cable - the one I never got around to putting on my last boat. Let's
see if anyone has any ideas. I've never heard of a motor falling off the
back of a boat, but I have heard of someone DROPPING a motor trying to
attach it -- that's when I might think about running a line around the stern
rail.
