[Rhodes22-list] Herb; check this out

It was said tongue in cheek. My point being, that the riots that
happened should not have happened over the killing of King. And of
course, it's nothing can be "proven", but my belief is that most of
those "disenfranchised" that rioted were looking for an excuse. Most of
us are looking for excuses just to live our lives, not break into
buildings, steal from others, and burn and destroy.

New Orleans was devastated by Katrina. So was Gulfport Mississippi.
Though NO was 5 times the size of Gulfport, the median income is roughly
the same for both cities. In one city there was mass looting, in the
other, there was not. One city had a population that has been
indoctrinated with the notions that "we are disenfranchised" and "we are
owed", and reacted accordingly. The other city did not have that legacy.

I started to write a post earlier, and just gave up, but will mention
the thought now. The Chinese immigrants in the mid-late 1800's were
treated as virtual slaves. We didn't call them that, but that's
essentially what they were (work for $28 a day, and owe it all back to
the company store, and you're a slave). Yet somehow, they as a
population, but the progeny and new Chinese immigrants somehow manage to
make a way.

It's not racism. It's not true disenfranchisement. It's a cultural
thing. You and I will never be able to change the cultures involved in
the problem. They much change the culture, and step 1 is deciding they
want to change it.

As to your question about whether or not there would be rioting in the
street in the scenario described? Yes Elle, I do believe here would be.
As a matter of fact, I believe that some of them will take to the
streets if Obama simply looses. I'm glad those idiots got arrested, but
from I've read of it, it sounds more like it was barnyard posturing by
some roosters instead of a real threat. At least the Obama part, I have
no doubt that

A black girl makes a false claim about attacks, and she is not only
supported by the community, the whites are STILL pilloried even after
her story is made false.

A white girl makes a false claim about being attacked by supporters of
black candidate, and her story is quickly debunked, and she (though
clearly a psychologically disturbed woman) is blasted. That's partially
how it should be (the first part, not the latter), but that's the way it
should always be.

I won't even talk about the Duke incident, other than to say what if
those guys had simply been white, instead of rich and white and able to
afford a good defense attorney.

There are some things that have gone terribly wrong, the pendulum has
swung to far the other direction. It will right itself eventually (I
believe), but unless efforts are made (and it better be by folks other
than the Revs Jackson and Sharp), I believe the pendulum will do what
they're designed to do, and swing the other way again.
